Russia Denies Recruiting Nigerians for Suicide Drone Factories Amid International Outcry”
The Russian government has firmly denied allegations that young Nigerian women are being recruited into suicide drone manufacturing facilities under the guise of a scholarship scheme. In a statement released by the Russian Embassy, the claims were dismissed as baseless, colonial in tone, and part of a broader smear campaign allegedly funded by Western interests.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The statement was issued in response to increasing media scrutiny—particularly from Nigerian outlets—surrounding activities at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Alabuga, Tatarstan.
According to the Russian government, recent reports claiming that Nigerian women were lured into military drone production jobs in Russia are entirely fictitious. The statement described these reports as “a plethora of fiction” fabricated by “pro-Western paid writers” who have spun false narratives involving human trafficking, forced labour, and prostitution within the Alabuga zone.
Addressing specific accusations that Russian agents were targeting African and Asian youths online with misleading promises of education and high salaries, the Embassy categorically denied any form of exploitation.
Part of the statement read:
“Nigerian media has taken interest in the operations of the Special Economic Zone in Alabuga. Some local publications, with vivid imaginations, have published lengthy reports alleging that Nigerian girls and women are being forcibly employed in factories in Tatarstan.
“For context, the Alabuga SEZ was established in 2006 and has since developed into one of Russia’s most efficient economic zones.
“One article even claimed that due to a domestic labour shortage, Russian recruiters have been targeting Africans and Asians online, luring them with promises of good pay and education. The report alleges heinous activities such as human trafficking, enslavement, inhumane working conditions, and forced prostitution—none of which have any basis in fact.”
The Russian government further criticized the narrative as being steeped in a colonial mindset, asserting that it reflects the interests of those who seek to dominate weaker nations through misinformation.
“Russia, a nation that has long struggled for its own independence, continues to support the rights and freedoms of all peoples. We stand with Africa and other regions in the fight against terrorism and the remnants of colonialism. We reject any form of global dominance and urge journalists to verify their information and question its credibility,” the statement concluded.
