Medical Crisis Looms: NARD Warns FG with 4-Week Countdown Over Unmet Demands!
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a four-week ultimatum to the federal government to fulfill its outstanding obligations to the association. The resolution was contained in a communique released following NARD’s May Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) and Scientific Conference, which took place from Monday, May 26 to Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Villa Hotel in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
“The OGM mandates the National Officers’ Committee to continue engaging relevant stakeholders over the next four weeks to push for the implementation of the stated demands. At the end of the window, the National Executive Council will reassess the situation,” the communique stated.
Held under the theme “The Medical Profession: Policies, Politics, and Future Prospects,” the meeting featured a keynote address by Dr. Philip Ugbodaga, Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin City.
Among the major demands outlined by NARD are:

Immediate payment of arrears related to the 25% and 35% upward review of the CONMESS salary structure, as well as other outstanding wages.

Full enforcement of consequential adjustments to the 2019 and 2024 minimum wages on basic salaries and allowances, along with associated arrears.

Prompt release of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF).

Payment of the 2023/2024 Accoutrement Allowance arrears by the federal government and Chief Medical Directors (CMDs).
