Kingibe, a member of the Labour Party, defended the budget during a recent Senate session, applauding the allocation of 70 percent for capital expenditures. Despite some online backlash, with critics calling the budget too high, Kingibe emphasized the importance of setting aside political differences for the sake of the FCT’s development.

In a statement, she clarified her stance, saying that the budget focuses on addressing vital issues such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and housing. She argued that the budget is designed to benefit residents of the FCT, particularly those in dire need of improvements in their living conditions, youth empowerment, and public services. Kingibe also stated that the proposed distribution of funds, with less than 30% dedicated to personnel costs and overheads, was reasonable and that proper implementation could bring tangible improvements to the lives of the people in the FCT.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.
