Tinubu Set to Review Ministerial Performance Reports Ahead of May 29
With his second anniversary in office just days away, President Bola Tinubu is poised to receive a comprehensive report evaluating the performance of his ministers for the first quarter of 2025. Sources within the Presidency disclosed that the Central Delivery and Coordination Unit (CDCU) is finalizing a new set of scorecards assessing the effectiveness of federal ministries.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The assessment, coordinated by CDCU head Hadiza Bala-Usman, follows submissions from ministries documenting their Q1 achievements and milestones. These inputs, aligned with performance bonds signed during the October 2023 cabinet retreat, have been verified against key indicators, with scores assigned accordingly.
The updated report is expected to land on the President’s desk imminently, offering insights into ministries that have delivered on their mandates and those lagging behind. According to insiders, while a few ministries—such as Works—earned above-average marks, many others fell short in critical areas.
Although immediate dismissals are unlikely, the report will form the basis for future one-on-one engagements between the President and his ministers. It may also guide potential cabinet reshuffles after May 29.
President Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to performance-based governance, asserting during a 2023 retreat that ministers who fail to meet expectations risk being removed.
The CDCU, established in June 2023, was modeled after performance-tracking units in the UK and Rwanda. Its mandate includes evaluating ministerial deliverables, generating quarterly dashboards, and flagging critical issues requiring presidential intervention.
Political opposition parties have seized on the forthcoming report to criticize the administration. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Labour Party (LP) condemned what they described as widespread inefficiency and failure across key sectors including security, the economy, education, and healthcare.
Civic groups have echoed these concerns, urging the President to act decisively based on the CDCU’s findings. Calls have also emerged for greater transparency, with some stakeholders advocating for the public release of the scorecard results.
Despite assurances from the Presidency that the report is routine and aimed at fostering accountability, mounting pressure from within and outside government signals growing demand for reforms at the federal level.
