“Murderers!” – Mr Macaroni Slams Nigerian Police After WASSCE Candidate Killed by Stray Bullet in Ibadan
Popular Nigerian actor and activist, Adebowale Adedayo, known as Mr Macaroni, has strongly condemned the Nigerian Police Force following the tragic killing of a student in Ibadan, Oyo State. The victim, a West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidate, was fatally shot by a stray bullet while on his way to sit for an exam.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to reports, the incident happened during a high-speed police chase targeting a vehicle suspected to be driven by internet fraudsters (“Yahoo boys”). During the chase, an officer allegedly fired a shot intended for the suspect’s car tyre, but the bullet struck the student instead, killing him instantly.
The student was with his twin brother when the incident occurred on Gbagi Market Road. He was rushed to Welfare Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In a widely shared post on social media, Mr Macaroni reacted with outrage, writing on :
“Wicked, Evil, Callous, irresponsible and shamelessly corrupt @PoliceNG just killed an innocent boy in broad daylight!!! MURDERERS!!!“
Following the shooting, angry protesters, including traders and sympathizers, took to the streets and carried the victim’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat, demanding justice.
Oyo State Government Reacts
A statement from Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, described the event as “sad, shocking, and painful.” He said the victim’s father was reportedly driving against traffic, prompting the police action.
The government acknowledged that a shot aimed at a tyre missed its target, resulting in the tragedy. They have promised to investigate thoroughly and ensure justice, while taking measures to prevent future occurrences.
