The Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Monday, approved a comprehensive infrastructure development package worth approximately ₦1.81 trillion, comprising both fresh and restructured road contracts. Among the key components is the $651.7 million (₦1.05tn) financing agreement for the 7th Axial Road, a 50km strategic link between the Lekki Deep Sea Port and Sagamu-Ore Expressway, designed to facilitate export logistics for the Dangote Refinery and other industries. The road will include 5km of bridges and is funded by China Exim Bank following Tinubu’s bilateral push in Beijing.
In addition to this, the FEC approved ₦760.4 billion for multiple road projects across 12 states, including a ₦30.23bn first phase of the Aba-Ikot-Ekpene Road, as well as major variations for inherited projects in Ondo, Ekiti, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kaduna states.
The Akure-Ado-Ekiti dualisation was revised to 15km at a new cost of ₦19.4bn, while the Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna corridor was reduced to 82.4km (plus six bridges) for the originally budgeted ₦105bn, now redistributed for cost efficiency.
Other notable approvals include:
-
₦21bn for the first 30km phase of the Maiduguri–Mongonu Road in Borno,
-
₦176.5bn to reinforce the Ebute-Ero/Outer Marina shoreline in Lagos amid rising erosion threats,
-
₦25bn for the Abakaliki–Afikpo flyover in Ebonyi,
-
₦37bn for the Ikoga–Atan–Ado-Odo Road in Ogun,
-
₦150bn to rescope 77km of the Enugu–Onitsha Road, partially funded by MTN under its tax credit scheme,
-
₦187bn for the final 96km stretch of the Benin–Sagamu–Ore Road.
On ecological fronts, the council sanctioned ₦26.35bn for emergency dam upgrades within the Kano River Irrigation Project, involving the Tiga Dam (₦11.84bn), Shalangwa Gorge Dam (₦7.47bn), and Kafin Chiri irrigation system (₦7.04bn). These projects are expected to benefit over 30,000 farm families and sustain three annual farming cycles, generating over 300,000 jobs.
A separate project in Adamawa State, the Chamnuman section of the Gombe-Yola Road, was awarded ₦9.25bn to CGC under a phased rehabilitation plan.
Umahi further revealed that over 70% of Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is complete and confirmed that 30km of the Sokoto-Badagry Road in Kebbi will be ready for commissioning by May 25. International financial partners, including the Dutch Bank and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, have reportedly rated Nigeria’s procurement process for these projects as “excellent” and even “undervalued,” affirming strong investor confidence.
Dr. Emanso Umobong, the Permanent Secretary for Cabinet Affairs, emphasized the ecological and economic significance of the dam projects and also confirmed proactive works on Alau Dam in Borno to avert future flood risks.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
