Information gathered from various relevant agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), revealed that the majority of the repatriated citizens came from Niger and Libya. A breakdown of the figures indicates that 750 Nigerians were brought back from Niger, 1,303 from Libya, and 140 from Sudan.

Repatriation efforts began in January, with 542 individuals returning from Niger and Libya. February saw a higher return rate, with 664 Nigerians arriving from the same countries. In March, 640 Nigerians were repatriated from Sudan, Libya, and Niger. The latest batch, which returned in April, saw 347 citizens flown back from Libya.

Additionally, the Nigerian government rescued 231 Nigerians trafficked to Ghana, bringing their total number of returnees to over 2,200. The government has continuously warned citizens, particularly young people, to be cautious of fraudulent job offers that promise employment opportunities abroad, urging them to verify such offers through official channels.

Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement urging Nigerians to avoid falling prey to exploitative practices that often lead to dangerous situations abroad. The government’s actions reflect a concerted effort to provide support for citizens trapped in dire circumstances abroad while discouraging illegal migration.

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
