During the service held at St. Philip Anglican Church, Governor Abiodun lauded Adebanjo as a steadfast champion of integrity, justice, and a fierce advocate for true federalism. He acknowledged the late statesman’s significant role in strengthening the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, and its crucial contributions toward regional integration, restructuring, and devolution of power in Nigeria. Abiodun further recognized Adebanjo’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s democracy, particularly in resisting military dictatorship.

The funeral also saw the attendance of former Ogun State governors Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun, alongside Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Yemi Cardoso and Chief Ayo Opadokun. Abiodun emphasized that Adebanjo’s advocacy for the Yoruba people and his moral stance against corruption, nepotism, and impunity were central to his life’s work.

Bishop Olusina Fape, in his homily, praised Adebanjo’s purposeful and selfless life, urging the nation’s leaders to emulate his dedication to service. Fape reflected on the inevitability of death and the importance of living a life of purpose, similar to the fearless advocacy for democracy and good governance that Adebanjo championed throughout his life. The bishop expressed hope that Nigeria’s leaders would demonstrate greater selflessness and commitment to the nation’s development, following in Adebanjo’s footsteps.
