Heavyweight Clash Ends in Stalemate as Ajagba, Bakole Battle to Draw in Saudi Arabia

Nigerian heavyweight contender Efe Ajagba and Congolese fighter Martin Bakole fought to a hard-fought majority draw in their electrifying matchup at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, early Sunday morning.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

After ten fiercely contested rounds, the judges delivered scores of 95-95, 94-96, and 95-95. While one judge leaned in favour of Ajagba, the other two declared the bout even, resulting in a stalemate that left fans and pundits eager for a potential rematch.

The bout was part of the undercard for the high-profile clash between Canelo Álvarez and William Scull, and it held significant implications for both boxers. Bakole was aiming to bounce back from a devastating knockout loss to Joseph Parker earlier in the year, while Ajagba was chasing his sixth straight victory since his only professional defeat to Frank Sánchez in 2021.

Ajagba, 30, entered the fight with a strong record of 20 wins—including 14 knockouts—and just one loss. He had been gaining momentum, notably with a commanding win over Guido Vianello in April 2024.

Speaking to Sky Sports prior to the bout, Ajagba expressed confidence in his championship potential, stating: “I have the abilities, I have the skills, I have the power, everything to become a heavyweight champion.”

Despite being the underdog with betting odds of 3.30 (+330) compared to Bakole’s 1.27 (-400), Ajagba delivered a resilient performance. However, neither fighter landed the definitive blow needed to stake a claim for a title shot.

The result leaves both heavyweights in contention, though with questions still hanging over their path to a world title in a division dominated by unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois. For now, the draw keeps their dreams alive—and sets the stage for what could be an explosive rematch.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Surpassing Competitors: Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed confidently stated that, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke outperforms all other presidential contenders currently in the political space.

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
