Following a comprehensive screening exercise conducted between April 29 and May 3 at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, a total of 470 aspirants were assessed. Out of this number, 38 candidates were either disqualified or voluntarily withdrew from the race.

Among the notable withdrawals was Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, son of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. His decision to step down reportedly came after intervention from APC National Leader and President Bola Tinubu.

Disqualifications were primarily based on irregularities such as lack of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), missing APC membership credentials, and inconsistencies in academic records—especially secondary school certificates.

The screening committee, chaired by former APC National Legal Adviser and ex-Lagos Assembly member Babatunde Ogala, with Babarinde Nurudeen as secretary, was tasked not only with the candidate vetting but also with coordinating all pre-election activities across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

According to APC’s primary election guidelines, the party will adopt an indirect primary format, with delegates drawn from the executive members of LGAs and LCDAs. Disqualified aspirants have until May 5 to file appeals, while any post-primary disputes must be submitted between May 12 and 13.

Ogala described the process as “rigorous and demanding,” asserting that those who made it through are well-positioned to drive effective grassroots governance.

Of the 470 aspirants, 411 were male and 59 were female—a statistic the party highlighted as a sign of growing gender inclusion and political engagement among women at the local level.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.
