Segun Sowunmi Breaks Ranks, Declares Support for Peter Obi as Nigeria’s Future Leader
As political discussions heat up ahead of the 2027 general elections, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has stirred the waters by throwing his weight behind Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking in Abuja during a May Day talk show organized by members of the Obidient Movement, under the Cyrus Group and Free Nigeria Foundation, Sowunmi said Nigeria’s future rests squarely on Obi’s shoulders. Despite his affiliation with the PDP, he openly admitted that Obi is the only genuine contender among all prospective candidates.
According to Sowunmi, Obi possesses a clear vision for national development and is actively pursuing solutions to Nigeria’s problems—traits that, he argues, are lacking in other political aspirants who are unprepared but waiting for power.
“You know, I am of the PDP, but the future of Nigeria is in Peter Obi. He is the only genuine candidate; all others are fake,” Sowunmi said. “We’ve spent too long rotating leadership between the North and Southwest, sidelining the Southeast, where Obi, a capable leader, stands ready.”
Also addressing the event, Labour Party’s Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to Nigeria’s workers across all sectors. She outlined key priorities, including fair wages, workers’ rights, access to health and housing programs, and enforcement of labour laws.
Senator Usman warned that a government failing to reflect its achievements in the people’s welfare is effectively failing in governance. She urged citizens to stay focused and not be swayed by temporary gains at the expense of long-term national progress.
Meanwhile, FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe challenged Nigerian youths and members of the Obidient Movement to become more proactive in shaping the nation’s future.
“You are too quiet, and we are going down in this country,” she cautioned, encouraging increased civic participation.
The remarks from across the political spectrum at the event further signal growing momentum around Peter Obi’s candidacy as attention begins to turn toward the 2027 elections.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
