Dele Farotimi, the National Organizing Secretary of Afenifere, has publicly disavowed a statement attributed to the Yoruba socio-political group, which defended Seyi Tinubu amid allegations made by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Naija News, NANS President Atiku Abubakar Isah had accused President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, of orchestrating an attack against him using thugs. While Seyi Tinubu denied the accusation, a faction of Afenifere, led by spokesperson Abagun Kole Omololu, issued a statement on Friday dismissing Isah’s claims as baseless and politically motivated.

Omololu’s statement suggested that the accusation against Seyi was a calculated move aimed at undermining President Tinubu by proxy. He labeled the incident part of a coordinated political offensive involving various opposition coalitions.

However, Farotimi, reacting via his verified (formerly Twitter) account, challenged the authenticity of that statement, asserting that the Afenifere group he represents had no involvement in the matter. He strongly implied that political manipulation was at play, referencing previous controversies to drive home his point.

“I think you should remember that a man capable of manufacturing bishops should have little problem with creating an Afenifere caricature, which would do his bidding and perform circus tricks for him,” Farotimi stated. “The Afenifere to which I belong has nothing to do with this.”

His remarks highlight ongoing tensions within Afenifere and growing concerns over the politicization of prominent civil society voices in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

FERMA’s South-East 2 Zonal Director, Suleiman Mohammed Omonowo, issued the warning during an inspection of the project, cautioning against the burning of tyres during celebrations, which he said could damage the road surface.

“Our advice to road users, especially indigenes, is to protect the road from destruction. Let nobody come and destroy it or burn tyres in the name of celebration,” he said.

Omonowo said the Aba–Azumini highway was previously in a very bad condition before FERMA intervened, describing it as a death trap for commuters and residents.

He also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the project, adding that drainage structures such as catch pits would help prevent flooding and extend the lifespan of the road.

According to him, the highway serves as a major link between Aba, several Abia communities, and Cross River State, carrying heavy traffic daily.

He urged local construction firms to improve on quality delivery to compete effectively with foreign contractors.

Meanwhile, the Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer in Abia State, Festus Okafor, said FERMA workers have not faced harassment or violence from residents during operations in the state.
