Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has called on President Bola Tinubu to honour the memory of two iconic nationalists—Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Edwin Clark—by implementing the recommendations of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos on Friday, George stated that immortalising the elder statesmen—both of whom passed away earlier this year—should go beyond ceremonial tributes. He emphasized that the true tribute lies in enacting the Confab resolutions they championed during their lifetimes.

Adebanjo, a revered leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, died at age 96 on February 14, while Clark, a prominent Niger Delta elder, passed away at 97 on February 17. Both were instrumental in shaping the outcomes of the 2014 conference, convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

George, a retired naval officer and former governor of Ondo State, revealed he worked closely with the two elder statesmen during the Confab, particularly on the sub-committee focused on Nigeria’s constitutional system.

“I’m appealing to President Tinubu to release and implement the 2014 Confab report in their honour. These men dedicated their lives to nation-building, and implementing the resolutions will immortalise them meaningfully,” George said.

He lamented the worsening national climate, citing economic decline, political instability, rising insecurity, and widespread disillusionment as signs of a failing system. According to him, the 2014 report offers a blueprint to address these systemic challenges—including corruption, sectionalism, nepotism, and poverty.

George also used the occasion to urge reforms in Nigeria’s electoral processes to better reflect the will of the people. He advised President Tinubu not to relent in addressing the nation’s socioeconomic and security issues.

On internal political matters, he commented on recent defections from the PDP to the ruling APC, expressing concern over what motivates the switch. He emphasized that the PDP is far from finished but needs urgent internal restructuring and unity.

He concluded by calling on party leaders to set aside personal ambitions and focus on national interest and party revival.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
