Otti Unveils $1.3bn Medical City Project to Tackle Foreign Medical Tourism
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced a bold plan to establish a $1.3 billion medical city in the state—a flagship project aimed at reducing the nation’s growing reliance on overseas medical care and cutting the associated transport expenses.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during the April edition of his monthly civic engagement series, Meet the People, Otti revealed that President Bola Tinubu is expected to inaugurate the medical city during his upcoming visit to Abia, scheduled before May 29, 2025.
“The Abia Medical City will be a transformative solution for Nigeria’s health sector. It will drastically reduce medical tourism costs while placing Abia at the forefront of quality healthcare delivery,” the governor said.
During the President’s visit, the recently completed Port Harcourt Road in Aba will also be commissioned.
Governor Otti also touched on ongoing reforms in education, finance, and security. He reported that 7,000 pupils are currently benefitting from Abia’s free education programme, which has been bolstered by the recruitment of 9,000 new teachers. These educators are undergoing phased training to enhance classroom performance, especially in critical STEM fields.
“Our focus is on mathematics, engineering, and science to prepare students for a technology-driven economy,” he stated.
To improve primary healthcare, the governor disclosed that 777 new health workers will be recruited soon.
Providing a snapshot of the state’s fiscal management, Otti disclosed that his administration inherited a ₦138 billion debt portfolio. However, ₦72 billion has already been paid off, leaving a ₦66 billion balance, excluding outstanding liabilities to contractors, unpaid salaries, and pension arrears.
“Despite these financial pressures, we are managing resources prudently and staying committed to delivering impactful projects,” Otti affirmed.
On security, the governor praised law enforcement agencies and warned that criminal activities would not be tolerated. “We have maintained vigilance. Those who tested our resolve met swift resistance. There’s no room for lawlessness in Abia,” he declared.
Speaking on agriculture and rural protection, Otti said the state’s anti-grazing law will be reviewed but emphasized that Abia has moved beyond “the era of cows destroying our farms.”

Betrayal Exposed? Faction Demands Police Probe Into Fraudulent Leadership Claims Sent To INEC!.
The legal firm Ogbeide Associates, representing a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, requesting a formal investigation into PDP secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Key aspects of the petition include:
-
Allegations of False Representation: The petition challenges a November 3, 2025, letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which falsely claimed that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had replaced acting national chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum with Mohammed.
-
Contradictory NWC Records: Petitioners assert that the NWC’s November 1, 2025, emergency meeting actually resulted in the suspension of Anyanwu and three other officers due to alleged anti-party activities, and no record exists to support the claim that Damagum was suspended or Mohammed appointed.
-
Legal Precedents: The lawyers referenced an October 10, 2024, Federal High Court judgment that recognizes Damagum as the acting national chairman and prohibits INEC from accepting documents without his signature. Furthermore, they noted that the Court of Appeal upheld the NWC’s suspension of Anyanwu on March 9, 2026.
-
Call for Institutional Review: The petitioners have requested that the IGP investigate how INEC processed the contested November 3 letter despite being aware of the existing court orders and the NWC’s official resolutions.
-
Stated Objective: Counsel for the petitioner emphasized that the action is intended to address the integrity of public institutions and prevent the use of misleading internal party documentation, noting their readiness to provide supporting court judgments and party records to the police.
