Senator Natasha Insists Courts Must Decide Akpabio Harassment Suit

Published

on

Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has reiterated her commitment to pursue legal action against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accuses of sexual harassment. Natasha’s firm response follows a letter from Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olisa Agbakoba, demanding a retraction of what he called unfounded and conflicting claims.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Naija News, Agbakoba criticized Natasha’s silence over inconsistencies in her accusations, referencing his earlier letter dated April 14, 2025. In response, Natasha issued a formal letter to Agbakoba on April 30, 2025, standing by her initial petition and maintaining that her allegations reflect actual events.

She challenged the attempt to demand further evidence outside the ongoing case before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory—specifically, the suit filed by Akpabio’s wife, Unoma, under suit number CV/816/25. Natasha emphasized that only the judiciary has the authority to examine the merit of her claims.

“The assessment of evidence belongs to the courts alone,” Natasha wrote, criticizing what she described as an effort to mount a parallel trial through media pressure. She argued that seeking substantiation outside legal proceedings represents a distortion of both legal norms and the global understanding of sexual harassment.

She accused Akpabio of exploiting his political stature to avoid scrutiny by the Senate while simultaneously using media channels to demand public justification of her claims. Natasha warned that bypassing due judicial process undermines the legal system and could erode trust in democratic institutions.

“The principle is elementary: a litigant may not approbate in the courts and reprobate in the press,” she stated, adding that any required disclosures will be made only through proper legal channels under court direction.

She concluded by reaffirming her respect for the legal process, insisting that any further comment or evidence will be reserved for the courtroom, where fairness and rule of law must prevail.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.
