Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the anti-graft czar revealed that while progress has been made, the fight against graft remains an uphill battle.
“Upon assuming office, we conducted a comprehensive review of EFCC’s operations over nearly two decades,” Olukoyede explained. “This led us to implement crucial reforms aimed at strengthening our processes and procedures.”
The EFCC boss emphasized that effective anti-corruption efforts require more than publicity stunts. “This work isn’t about making noise – it’s about creating tangible impact,” he stated, noting that part of their strategy involves using anti-corruption measures to stimulate economic growth.
Despite the challenges, Olukoyede reported measurable successes from the commission’s reform initiatives in 2024. “We’ve focused on institutional reforms and operational improvements,” he said, adding that these changes have guided their investigative approaches over the past eighteen months.
The chairman stressed the importance of maintaining seriousness in corruption cases, regardless of political affiliations. His comments come as the EFCC continues high-profile investigations and prosecutions across Nigeria.
