Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday, April 25, 2025, ordered the remand of Nigerian musician Terry Alexander Ejeh, popularly known as Terry Apala, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre over allegations of naira mutilation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Terry Apala was brought before the court by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge. According to the EFCC, the musician, during a social event at La Madison Place, Oniru, on January 5, 2025, allegedly tampered with Nigerian currency by trampling on naira notes while dancing—an act prohibited under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

Upon arraignment, Terry Apala pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecuting counsel, S.I. Suleiman, thereafter requested the court to set a trial date and urged that the defendant be kept in custody pending the commencement of proceedings.

The defence counsel, Felix Nwabuda, informed the court of a pending bail application dated April 23, 2025. He pleaded for the defendant’s temporary release, assuring the court of Apala’s commitment to appear for trial, noting that the musician had voluntarily returned from the United Kingdom following the EFCC’s invitation.

Opposing the request, the prosecution argued that the defence’s plea was unconventional and urged the court to allow time to properly respond.

In a short ruling, Justice Aluko denied the defence’s oral application for temporary release and adjourned the matter to May 5, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application. He further ordered that Terry Apala remain in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre until the next court date.
