Wike’s Aide Slams Baba-Ahmed: “No Moral Ground to Preach Electoral Integrity”
Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to comment on electoral transparency in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Olayinka’s statement follows remarks made by Baba-Ahmed—former Political Adviser to Vice President Kashim Shettima and ex-Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—who warned against any attempt by the Tinubu administration to manipulate the 2027 general elections. Baba-Ahmed cautioned that such interference could lead to severe national consequences, emphasizing that Nigerians would no longer tolerate electoral injustice.
In a strongly worded response posted on Facebook, Olayinka reminded the public that Baba-Ahmed served as INEC Secretary in 2003 and 2007—elections widely criticized for malpractice. He noted that even late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who emerged victorious in 2007, admitted the election that brought him to power was flawed.
Olayinka argued that Baba-Ahmed, given his role during those controversial elections, is in no position to advocate for free and fair polls. He stated:
“Of course, elections must be free, fair, and credible. But someone who was INEC Secretary in 2003 and 2007, when even the president who won admitted the process was deeply flawed, lacks the moral right to now lecture Nigerians on electoral integrity.”
This exchange adds to the mounting tension as political actors begin posturing ahead of the 2027 elections, with transparency, accountability, and credibility likely to dominate national discourse in the years to come.
