Usman Bugaje Calls Money the Driving Force Behind PDP Defections to APC
Usman Bugaje, a former member of the House of Representatives and former presidential adviser, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using financial incentives to lure members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into its fold. He claimed that money is the key motivator behind the recent defections, suggesting that some politicians may even be coerced due to pending issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Bugaje’s comments came in the wake of a significant defection in Delta State, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside prominent PDP figures including Ifeanyi Okowa and various National and State Assembly members, joined the APC. He pointed out that although some may believe there are other factors at play, money remains the central element driving these shifts.
In an interview with Arise News, Bugaje stated, “The APC is essentially buying off the PDP with money. Some speculate about other motivations, but the reality is that financial incentives are at the core of these defections.” He further warned that if money continues to dominate political decisions, it could lead to the demise of democratic practices in Nigeria.
The PDP, in response to the defections, expressed surprise and vowed that the next elections would be focused on the people, not the defections of governors, asserting that the ruling APC would be held accountable for the country’s challenges.
Bugaje also criticized the PDP’s current position, arguing that it has failed to serve as a strong opposition party. He pointed to the party’s lack of action in critical matters such as the emergency rule issue, and described their behavior as a sign of a party in decline.
