Mohbad Autopsy Update: Pathologist Dismisses Drug Abuse, Points to Allergic Reaction

Published

on

New insights have surfaced in the investigation into the death of Nigerian music star Mohbad, as a forensic pathologist has ruled out drug abuse as the cause of death, instead raising the possibility of a deadly allergic reaction.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The revelation came during an inquest at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, where Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi announced that a final ruling would be delivered at a later date.

In a pivotal testimony, Dr. Uwom Eze, who performed a second autopsy on the late artist, told the court that no traces of illicit substances were discovered in Mohbad’s system. Responding to cross-examination from the African Women Lawyers Association’s Abiodun Kolawole, Eze confirmed that there was no indication the singer engaged in substance abuse.

Dr. Eze clarified that the substances found were consistent with medications typically used for managing pain and allergic reactions. He identified the drugs as antihistamines and analgesics, suggesting Mohbad was undergoing treatment for pain or an allergic episode before his death.

He noted, however, that critical information about the exact method of drug administration was missing. “I couldn’t determine how the injection was administered because body fluids had already been lost,” he explained.

The doctor also dismissed an injury on Mohbad’s right arm as a likely cause of death, stating it was too minor to be fatal, even to a newborn. The injury was no longer visible during the autopsy, possibly due to post-mortem changes.

While decomposition had limited the clarity of findings, Dr. Eze maintained that a rapid and severe allergic reaction from an injected substance was a plausible cause of death. “There was a major disruption of vital organs consistent with a hypersensitivity response,” he said.

Mohbad, 26, passed away on September 12, 2023, following treatment for a minor arm injury at his Lekki residence. Public outrage led to the exhumation of his body on September 21 for an autopsy mandated by Lagos State authorities.

The initial autopsy yielded inconclusive results due to internal decomposition. A second autopsy was later sanctioned in June 2024 after the deceased’s family sought an independent review.

Under further questioning from family lawyer Wahab Shittu (SAN), Dr. Eze raised concerns about the quality of medical care Mohbad received, labeling the treatment a “medical misadventure.”

Factional Crisis Rocks ADC In Akwa Ibom As Party Splits Deepen.

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
