Dan Ulasi Urges PDP to Woo Peter Obi Back for 2027 Presidential Race
Dan Ulasi, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has advised the party’s leadership to extend an olive branch to Peter Obi, encouraging his return ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Obi, who served as the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in 2019, parted ways with the party in 2022 to run for president under the Labour Party (LP) banner in the 2023 elections. Despite a strong showing, he came third behind President Bola Tinubu and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar.
Amid internal strife and defections within the PDP—including recent switches by Ifeanyi Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the All Progressives Congress (APC)—Ulasi suggested that bringing Obi back could rejuvenate the party’s prospects.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Ulasi emphasized Obi’s relevance, pointing to the over six million votes he garnered in the last election. He argued that only self-serving individuals in the PDP would resist Obi’s reintegration due to fears of being outshined.
He said, “Peter Obi is a symbol of progress. If there’s a genuine intention to rebuild the PDP, he is someone the party should actively pursue. We need leadership committed to better governance, not party politics.”
Ulasi highlighted Obi’s traits of integrity, performance, and honor—qualities he believes are rare among today’s politicians. He also expressed his willingness to mediate between Obi and the PDP leadership if approached.
Condemning the wave of defections, Ulasi urged former PDP governors to publicly justify their shift to the APC and account for their stewardship after eight years in office.
