Rivers Sole Administrator Ignores Reps Again Amid Emergency Governance Concerns
The Sole Administrator appointed to govern Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has once again failed to attend an interactive session organized by the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State oversight.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This committee, led by House Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere, was constituted after President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025. The presidential directive saw the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the state legislature, placing full administrative powers in the hands of Ibas.
The session, scheduled for 3:00 PM on Thursday, was intended to address the ongoing political climate and governance strategy in the state. However, Ibas was notably absent, prompting a closed-door meeting among lawmakers. Upon emerging, committee members declined to comment, with Ihonvbere responding curtly with “no comment” when asked about Ibas’s absence.
This marks the second time Ibas has failed to appear before the committee. The initial meeting, planned for April 17, 2025, was postponed at his request, citing scheduling conflicts and a need for more time.
The persistent absence of the sole administrator has sparked concern within the National Assembly, as lawmakers seek clarity and accountability regarding the administration of Rivers State during the emergency period.
