Mele Kyari: Protesters Demand Justice as Lawyers Occupy AGF’s Office Over NNPCL Scandal
A coalition of lawyers, under the banner of Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, gathered at the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja on Wednesday, April 23, to demand a comprehensive investigation into alleged corruption linked to former NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The legal professionals submitted a petition to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), pressing for a probe into what they described as questionable transactions and financial mismanagement during Kyari’s leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
Co-signed by Barristers Emmanuel Agada and Jonathan Uchendu, the petition raised serious concerns about the transparency of several major deals, particularly the controversial rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries. The petitioners highlighted inconsistencies in the finances surrounding the Port Harcourt Refinery, referencing Matrix Energy Limited’s alleged $400 million investment despite a Federal Executive Council-approved $1.5 billion for the same project.
They also claimed that NNPCL currently owes Matrix Energy more than $2 billion, a debt reportedly being offset through crude oil allocations—many of which remain unsettled.
The lawyers urged the AGF to initiate a judicial review of all contracts and transactions executed under Kyari’s administration, and to establish a commission of inquiry into the refineries’ repairs. According to them, uncovering the truth behind these allegations is vital to recovering public funds and preventing a repeat of such governance lapses.
They emphasized the importance of accountability not only for past executives but also for the current leadership at NNPCL. The group vowed to sustain their advocacy until justice is served and clarity is brought to the alleged misuse of public resources.
A senior official in the AGF’s office, Deputy Director Winifred Adekunle, acknowledged receipt of the petition and assured that it would be promptly delivered to the minister for necessary action.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
