This was made known by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a press briefing held on Tuesday to commemorate the second anniversary of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.

Highlighting the ministry’s performance, Osiyemi explained that the fare subsidy was primarily facilitated through the Lagos Bus Service Limited (LBSL), which was established to deliver a safe, affordable, and integrated public transportation system. Between May 2019 and February 2025, LBSL transported more than 60.8 million passengers and now runs approximately 1,000 trips daily, carrying an average of 42,266 commuters.

“The average fare charged by LBSL has been N261.67 lower than the prevailing market rate, culminating in a total subsidy value of N14.9 billion,” Osiyemi stated.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing transport infrastructure across road, rail, and waterways, aligning with the governor’s broader vision for a modern, efficient, and sustainable transportation network in Lagos.

Regarding the state’s water transport system, Osiyemi noted that investigations were ongoing into a recent fire incident involving a LAGFERRY vessel. He assured the public that the outcome of the probe would be disclosed in due course. He also announced that all LAGFERRY boats are now equipped with CCTV systems for enhanced passenger safety through real-time monitoring.
