Senator Abba Moro Slams Security Forces Over Escalating Killings in Benue
Senator Abba Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, has voiced strong concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Benue State. Speaking during an appearance on Democracy Today, an AIT program, the senator criticized both the Federal Government and security operatives for failing to protect citizens and for allegedly exploiting the very people they are meant to safeguard.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Moro condemned the rising spate of killings in his constituency, expressing heartbreak over the normalization of violence and mass burials across communities in Benue.
“No conscientious Benue indigene can say they are not disturbed by the wave of violence. We are tired of burying our people. This must stop,” he said.
He acknowledged recent statements from the Governor of Benue condemning the killings but urged the governor to move beyond mere words to concrete action. Moro stressed that previous silence from the state leadership had only worsened the situation.
“I’m glad the governor has finally broken his silence, but condemnation alone is not enough. We need real action and accountability,” he added.
In a more pointed rebuke, Senator Moro accused President Bola Tinubu of ignoring several resolutions passed by the Senate regarding the escalating insecurity nationwide. He described the federal government’s response as grossly inadequate, warning that continued inaction could deepen the country’s security crisis.
He also criticized security agents operating in the state, accusing them of extorting locals instead of combating the criminal elements responsible for the bloodshed.
Moro’s remarks reflect growing frustration among residents and political leaders in Benue, where repeated attacks—allegedly by armed herdsmen—have claimed numerous lives and displaced entire communities.
