Defend Your Lands”: IPOB Lawyer Urges Communities to Take Action Against Herdsmen Attacks
Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a legal representative for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a stern warning to rural communities, urging them to take proactive steps in defending their ancestral lands against the rising threat of herdsmen violence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ifeanyi Ejiofor’s comments come amid a surge in attacks across Benue and Plateau States, with innocent lives being lost at an alarming rate. He criticized the government’s failure to go beyond mere condemnation, noting that official responses have proven ineffective in curbing the ongoing violence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ejiofor lamented the government’s inability to take decisive action, despite frequent public statements condemning the killings. He specifically pointed to the paradox of Benue State’s governor praising the federal government’s support, only to request further intervention, highlighting the contradiction in addressing the crisis.
The IPOB lawyer also referenced the defense minister’s directive to security forces to track down the perpetrators, yet noted that the killings continued without reprieve.
Ejiofor emphasized that the situation has now reached a critical point where communities must rely on their own efforts to safeguard their lands. He called for indigenous groups to organize lawfully within the confines of the law to protect themselves from these marauding groups, stressing that the ongoing violence could only be stopped through communal resolve and action.
