State Speakers Urge Tinubu to Roll Out Urgent Economic Relief Policies
The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to swiftly implement targeted policies aimed at alleviating the growing economic hardship faced by citizens.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This appeal was made through a statement released by the Conference Chairman and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Ogundoyin, on Monday. The statement acknowledged the severe impact of inflation, rising unemployment, and a worsening cost-of-living crisis on millions of Nigerians.
The Speakers emphasized the urgent need for transparent and impactful relief strategies to be introduced, urging the Federal Government to prioritize citizen engagement and adopt bold, practical measures to soften the effects of its current economic policies.
In addition to economic concerns, the Conference expressed strong condemnation of the recent surge in violent attacks across the country. They cited disturbing incidents in Plateau, Borno, Benue, Niger, and Kwara States, which have resulted in widespread displacement, loss of lives, and immense trauma for affected communities.
Decrying the inadequate response to these security threats, the Conference called for immediate and coordinated action across all levels of government to restore peace and stability.
The Speakers also urged state governments to complement federal efforts by enacting and enforcing laws that support community policing and grassroots-led security frameworks. They stressed the importance of proactive security models that incorporate local intelligence, social support networks, and youth participation to effectively combat insecurity.
“The time for platitudes and passive responses has passed,” the statement read. “Dialogue and decisive action must define this government’s approach as the nation navigates these critical times.”
