APC Forum Slams Malami: You Lack Credibility to Speak for CPC Bloc

Published

on

The North-Central Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over his recent comments challenging former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura’s stance on the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) bloc’s loyalty to President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Al-Makura, who leads the CPC faction within the APC, had previously rejected the idea of aligning with a new opposition coalition being reportedly championed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. In response, Malami claimed that only the Buhari-aligned faction of the CPC—which he belongs to—could determine the bloc’s direction.

However, in a statement issued Friday and signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the North-Central APC Forum dismissed Malami’s assertions, arguing that he lacks the moral standing and political credibility to speak for any CPC-affiliated group.

The Forum reaffirmed its support for Al-Makura’s leadership, praising his integrity and commitment to the APC, while accusing Malami of being deeply complicit in the failures and controversial policies of the Buhari administration. It also criticized his alleged interference in anti-corruption efforts, specifically citing his role in the appointment of Abdulrasheed Bawa as EFCC Chairman and the derailment of high-profile corruption cases.

The statement further condemned Malami’s involvement in the unpopular Naira redesign policy, which it said caused widespread financial hardship. It also emphasized that Malami and his associates did not support Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections and are now siding with opposition forces out of personal frustration.

According to the Forum, Malami’s attempts to align with the emerging opposition coalition are motivated by political bitterness and self-interest, comparing his actions to those of Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who are allegedly orchestrating the coalition against Tinubu.

The Forum reminded the public that despite losing Kebbi State to the PDP in the last election, Tinubu still emerged victorious, indicating that support from individuals like Malami was not essential.

Highlighting Al-Makura’s role in the original CPC-APC merger, the Forum noted that as the only CPC governor at the time, his contribution was crucial—unlike Malami, who played no significant part in the merger negotiations. It concluded by urging Malami to rehabilitate his public image and accept his diminished influence in contemporary APC politics.

“South Has Had More Time In Power” — Atiku Speaks On Zoning Debate

Published

on

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has argued that the North is not disadvantaged in Nigeria’s power-sharing arrangement under democratic rule.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Atiku made the statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke on zoning, fairness, and political balance in the country.

He noted that since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999, the South has held the presidency for about 18 years, while the North has governed for roughly 10 years.

According to him, this should be taken into account when discussing which region has benefited more from the country’s power rotation system. He also maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the only major political party with zoning clearly embedded in its constitution.

“The South has governed for 18 years and the North for 10. So who is really in deficit if we are being fair? Even more broadly, the only party with zoning formally entrenched is the PDP,” he said.

Atiku also recalled the constitutional conference held during the military era under General Sani Abacha, where he led a group that opposed the inclusion of rotational presidency in the constitution.

He said the proposal, championed by the late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, was rejected at the time because his group had majority support among delegates.

According to him, Ekwueme later acknowledged that the decision may not have been ideal during his funeral years later. Atiku added that he now believes a rotational system, if adopted earlier, could have ensured a more balanced distribution of power across Nigeria’s regions.
