Rivers Women Storm Streets Again, Demand Governor Fubara’s Return
In another wave of demonstrations, hundreds of women in Rivers State took to the streets on Wednesday, conducting a prayer march to call for the reversal of the recently declared state of emergency in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Organized by the group Rivers Women Unite for Sim (RWUS), the procession moved through key areas of Port Harcourt, the state capital. The women, dressed in red to symbolize urgency and solidarity, carried placards bearing bold messages such as “We want to see our governor,” “Declare How Much You Met,” “LGA Administrators Undemocratic,” “We Are Gagged In Our LGAs,” and “Ibas, What Is Your Secret Agenda In Rivers State?”
This protest follows just 48 hours after two other opposing groups of women held separate solidarity walks — one in support of the emergency declaration and the other against it. One rally occurred in Port Harcourt backing the government’s stance, while the dissenting group protested at Mbiama Junction in Ahoada-West Local Government Area.
Wednesday’s march underlines the increasing division among citizens regarding the political situation in the state. Many women voiced their dissatisfaction with the appointment of a sole administrator, whom they accused of bias and undemocratic practices.
Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, RWUS emphasized their commitment to peaceful advocacy through prayer and unity, urging the government to reinstate Governor Siminalayi Fubara and restore democratic governance in the state’s local councils.
