Niger Police Break Silence on Viral Video Alleging Discrepancies in Kidnap Case
The Niger State Police Command has issued a formal response to a viral video claiming that five suspected kidnappers were arrested, yet only three were brought before the court.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on the matter, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, clarified that the individuals mentioned in the video were involved in two separate kidnapping incidents.
According to Abiodun, the suspects named in the footage include Mohammed Dansajo, Mohammed Dangi of Kara village, and Abubakar Usman Abule of Kara-Jebba, Mokwa. Two others — Mohammed Umar and Abubakar Usman of Tunga-Ruwa village near Mokwa — were also linked to a separate case.
The police revealed that Dansajo, Dangi, and Abule were implicated in a kidnapping in Mokwa, where a victim was abducted and a ransom of ₦3 million was collected. Investigators recovered two mobile phones and a live cartridge from the crime scene. One of the phones led to the arrest of Dansajo, who confessed and named five accomplices.
Subsequently, Dangi and Abule were apprehended, while three other suspects remain at large. The three were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1 and later transferred to Court 7 for further prosecution.
In a separate case, Umar and Usman were investigated following a referral from the Magistrate Court in Jebba. Umar had allegedly hired a motorcyclist who later went missing, while the victim’s phone was traced to Usman. Both were charged with conspiracy, kidnapping, and robbery, and returned to the Jebba court for trial.
The police have urged the public to be cautious in spreading unverified information to avoid misinformation and public panic.
