Makinde to Leaders: Don’t Prioritize a ‘Lagos Clique’ While Nigeria Starves

He emphasized the need for national leaders to focus on alleviating the country’s pressing issues such as poverty and hunger, rather than engaging in what he described as “stunt politics.”
“We must ask ourselves: are Nigerians truly happy? Have we genuinely reduced the hunger in the land?” Makinde questioned. “Leadership should be about delivering meaningful solutions, not pandering to a small clique.”
Makinde argued that effective governance should not be regionally biased. “Improving lives across Nigeria—not just in one section or for a specific group, perhaps even a gang in Lagos—is the real responsibility of leadership,” he said.
The governor called for equity in governance, where all regions, regardless of size or political weight, receive fair attention and development.
Responding to a question about his political future, Makinde expressed confidence in his leadership capabilities, stating, “I have no doubt in my ability to lead this country. I possess the competence and vision necessary to occupy the highest office in the land.”
His comments have added to ongoing debates about political inclusion and equity as the country prepares for future elections.
