Cultism Scandal: Former Ebonyi Governor’s Aide Dismissed from University

Published

The management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), has officially dismissed Felix Okemini, a former security aide to Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, following allegations of involvement in cult-related activities during the school’s recent matriculation ceremony.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This decision was communicated in a dismissal letter signed by the institution’s registrar, Ifeanyi Igwe, and comes in the wake of a social media uproar over Okemini’s conduct during the March 14, 2025 event.

Okemini, who had enrolled as a political science student, was photographed at the ceremony wearing items associated with a secret cult. The image quickly went viral, prompting public outrage and demands for his removal from both the university and his government role.

In response, Governor Nwifuru had earlier relieved Okemini of his duties as his Special Assistant on Security for Ebonyi North District. Shortly after, AE-FUNAI suspended Okemini and launched a panel to investigate the incident.

Findings from the university’s panel revealed that Okemini participated in the matriculation without completing his registration process or obtaining a matriculation number. He was also found to have engaged in cult-like behavior, including chanting and displaying cult insignia—raising security concerns within the university community.

The university emphasized that such actions violated the Matriculation Oath and posed a serious threat to campus safety. Consequently, Okemini’s admission was withdrawn with immediate effect. He has been instructed to return all university property and stay off the campus entirely.

AE-FUNAI reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on cultism and pledged continued efforts to maintain a secure and disciplined academic environment.
