Multiple users have come forward, revealing that when they logged into their CBEX accounts over the weekend, they found their balances wiped out. Affected investors, some of whom had invested amounts between ₦200,000 and ₦5 million, are now facing severe financial distress.
Kunle Adewola, a tech expert, expressed his shock to the Nigerian Tribune, stating, “At first, I thought it was a glitch. But when I tried to withdraw and got an error message, I knew something was wrong. My entire savings is gone.”
This incident occurred just hours before the withdrawal date of April 15, which CBEX had promised investors after suspending withdrawals on April 11. The sudden disappearance of funds has left users in disbelief, as there was no prior communication from CBEX administrators explaining the situation or offering any recourse.
Amid the growing frustration, some angry Nigerians took to looting the CBEX office in Oke Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State. Videos circulating on social media show individuals removing televisions, air conditioners, and other office equipment.
The uproar has spread to social media platforms, with many users sharing their personal losses and tagging the platform with hashtags like #CBEXScam and #JusticeForCBEXInvestors. One Twitter user lamented, “CBEX finally crashed. Check your account—AI trade all. Millions of money gone .”
As the scandal unfolds, many are left questioning the safety of cryptocurrency and forex investments in the country, while hoping for some form of restitution or action from authorities.
