Bode George Declares Atiku Out of PDP 2027 Presidential Race
Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has firmly stated that the party will not support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election. In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George expressed regret over Atiku’s candidacy in the 2023 election, calling it a “self-inflicted mistake.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He criticized the decision to grant Atiku a waiver to contest in 2023, especially after the presidency had been held by a northerner, Muhammadu Buhari, for eight consecutive years, a move George argued violated the PDP’s zoning principles. He emphasized that the PDP must prioritize fairness by rotating the presidency to the South in line with the party’s zoning arrangement. George warned that if Atiku were to secure the presidential ticket again in 2027, it could lead to the party’s downfall.
Furthermore, George commended the PDP governors for their decision to reject any proposals for a coalition or merger talks, stressing that the PDP, as a major political force, should not merge with “structureless platforms.” He urged smaller parties and individuals to join the PDP instead, as he believes the party is on a path to recovery and regaining its national relevance. George praised the renewed commitment shown at the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Ibadan, which strengthened his confidence in the party’s future and reaffirmed his loyalty to its cause.
