Rivers State Crisis: Federal High Court to Hear Dagogo’s Suit Against Tinubu May 12
A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has scheduled May 12, 2025, to hear the substantive case brought by former House of Representatives member, Farah Dagogo. The suit challenges the controversial suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly following the federal government’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Dagogo, a former governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, filed the suit (marked FHC/PH/CS/50/2025) on April 9, 2025. He seeks judicial intervention to nullify the emergency declaration and the suspension of elected state officials.
Named as defendants are President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Nigerian Senate, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.
During a motion ex parte, Dagogo’s legal counsel, Chief C. I. Enweluzo, SAN, requested court approval for substituted service of legal documents, citing difficulty in serving the defendants directly. Justice Adamu Turaki Mohammed granted the request, allowing service of court papers through DHL courier to official addresses including Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly complex, and the Rivers State Government House.
President Tinubu had declared a six-month emergency rule in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, suspending democratic institutions and installing Ibas as the sole administrator. The decision, endorsed by the National Assembly, has drawn strong backlash from legal bodies, civil society organizations, labor unions, and political figures nationwide.
Critics argue the move undermines democratic principles and governance, intensifying the ongoing political tension in Rivers State.
