According to reports, the tragic incident occurred at a private hostel located along the Moro–Ife Road, where the student had been playing football with his peers.

Eyewitnesses stated that the football had landed inside a neighboring compound, prompting the deceased to scale the fence in order to retrieve it. After successfully throwing the ball back to his friends, the student was electrocuted while attempting to climb back over the fence when he came in contact with an exposed high-tension wire.

A resident, who spoke under anonymity, revealed that the wire had fallen due to a heavy rainstorm the previous day. “While climbing back, his hand accidentally touched the exposed wire, and he was electrocuted on the spot,” the resident said.

Friends of the student became alarmed when he didn’t return promptly and went in search of him. Upon discovering him unconscious and entangled with the wire, they used a stick to detach him and rushed him to a private hospital in Ipetumodu.

“He was confirmed dead at the first facility. Even after being taken to another hospital, it was clear he had already passed,” another witness narrated.

The Public Relations Officer of OAU, Abiodun Olanrewaju, confirmed the incident and extended the university’s heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family.

“It’s deeply saddening to lose one of our CDL students in such a manner. He had just joined others to play football, and unfortunately, when the ball strayed out of the field, he took it upon himself to retrieve it. While climbing back, he unknowingly grabbed a live wire,” Olanrewaju explained.

He added that despite the quick response from his friends, the student was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The Director of CDL, Professor Femi Koya, has since contacted the deceased’s family to inform them of the unfortunate incident.

At the time of this report, the student’s name had not been released as efforts continue to manage the situation with care and respect for the family.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Surpassing Competitors: Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed confidently stated that, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke outperforms all other presidential contenders currently in the political space.

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
