George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the upcoming Anambra State election, has affirmed that neither incumbency nor political party influence will determine the outcome of the race. He asserted that historical precedents show incumbents have been defeated multiple times, underscoring that electoral success rests on public support rather than political power. “It’s not about which party you belong to. The election will reflect the will of the people and God,” he said.

Moghalu, the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), stressed the importance of presenting a credible record and realistic promises to the electorate. “We must market ourselves. The people will evaluate our track records and determine who they can trust,” he added.

He expressed strong confidence in the Labour Party’s chances, declaring, “I am more prepared now than ever.” When asked how he clinched the LP ticket shortly after joining the party, Moghalu attributed it to divine favor and the confidence of party delegates and Anambra citizens.

“I give glory to God because He alone gives power. I also thank the delegates who trusted me enough to hand me this responsibility,” he said.

Regarding whether he would have succeeded in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries had he stayed, Moghalu replied that such speculation is in God’s hands.

He concluded with a pledge to return to the people in gratitude, stating that his leadership would be defined by results that resonate with the people’s expectations.
