Fubara’s Chief of Staff Seeks N2bn Defamation Damages from Ex-HoS Nweke and Channels TV
Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has filed a defamation lawsuit worth N2 billion against George Nweke, the former Head of Service of the state, and Channels Television.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In his suit, Ehie is requesting the court, led by Justice Stephen Jumbo, to award him the substantial sum in damages. The lawsuit stems from a March 29 televised interview featuring Nweke, which Ehie contends was malicious and filled with unfounded claims.
During a recent court session, Ehie’s lawyer, Tuduru Edeh, SAN, requested a permanent injunction barring the defendants and their associates from further disseminating defamatory content. The lawyer also urged the court to compel a retraction of the allegations, along with a public apology broadcasted on Channels Television, another national network, and published in two prominent Nigerian newspapers.
In response to the application, Justice Jumbo granted the requested orders, including a directive for all parties to refrain from discussing the matter publicly until the case is resolved. The case has been adjourned to June 4, 2025, for further proceedings.
