Buhari Challenges Nigerian Leaders to Follow His Example of Asset Integrity
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian political leaders to emulate his example of not accumulating wealth during his time in office, stating that he left office with the same assets he had before becoming president. This message was shared through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, during a meeting with governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Buhari highlighted the importance of leadership being focused on serving the citizens, offering his own example as a model. He stressed that leadership presents both challenges and opportunities, and balancing these two aspects can significantly contribute to the country’s progress.
In 2023, Buhari made similar claims regarding his wealth, stating that his personal assets remained unchanged during his eight years in office. Upon assuming office in May 2015, he declared his assets, which included N30 million in cash and properties in various Nigerian cities, as well as undeveloped land. However, he faced pressure from the media and civic groups to publish the documents for independent verification, following his previous statements about not owning property in Abuja.
Buhari’s calls come amid increasing concerns about the wealth accumulation of some political figures in Nigeria, with many citizens hoping that his example will inspire greater transparency and accountability in public office.
