Nigerian Troops Crack Down on Oil Theft, Seize 254,000 Litres of Stolen Petrol
Troops from the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, have successfully arrested 43 suspects and confiscated over 254,000 litres of stolen petroleum products in a large-scale operation targeting oil theft in the Niger Delta region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This was revealed in a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, on behalf of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army. The operations took place between March 31 and April 6, 2025, spanning across Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States.
In Rivers State, several oil theft hotspots were raided. A major illegal refining site was dismantled in the Andoni Local Government Area (LGA), where over 80,000 litres of crude oil were recovered. In Eleme LGA, 80 sacks containing 3,200 litres of suspected stolen petroleum were intercepted near Ogale Junction. Troops also uncovered a large cooking oven in Okarki, Ahoada West LGA, containing more than 3,000 litres of stolen crude.
Additional operations took place in Omoku, Aloloba (Kula II), Oshie, and Krakrama, where vehicles and storage facilities used for illegal bunkering were seized. The ongoing clearance operations along the Imo River are reportedly producing positive results.
In Delta State, troops uncovered a vast illegal bunkering site at Old Ogorode, Sapele LGA, where a Ford Bus loaded with 90,000 litres of stolen crude was seized. Other confiscated items included drums containing 14,800 litres of petroleum and a tank with 20,000 litres of the stolen product. In Ughelli North LGA, a mini tanker carrying 11,000 litres of illegally refined AGO was intercepted, resulting in the arrest of three suspects.
In Bayelsa State, illegal refining sites in Okordia, Yenagoa LGA, were dismantled, with 8,000 litres of crude destroyed. In Biseni, another site was deactivated, and in Akwa Ibom State, additional camps and equipment used for refining stolen crude were targeted.
The General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, praised the troops’ efforts, emphasizing the importance of these joint operations in combating oil theft. The Army reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the fight until the economic saboteurs are fully neutralized, thereby securing the nation’s economic interests and boosting oil and gas production.
