DSS Summons TIB Movement Organizing Secretary Over Planned Nationwide Protest
The Department of State Services (DSS) in Osun State has summoned the Organizing Secretary of the state chapter of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement, Olasunkanmi Mary Oluwatosin, for questioning regarding the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for April 7. The protest is organized to voice opposition to what the movement deems the “authoritarianism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” concerns about human rights violations, and the improper application of the Cybercrime Act.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to reports, a DSS official named Akin contacted Oluwatosin through WhatsApp on Saturday, asking for details about the protest. She later received another call on Sunday requesting her presence at the DSS office in Osogbo, the state capital, for a “chat.” In her response, Oluwatosin denied having knowledge of the protest and explained that she was not in town.
In a statement to the media, Oluwatosin added, “One DSS official called me yesterday and asked for details about our protest tomorrow, but I told her I wasn’t in town and knew nothing about the protest. Another number called me this evening, saying they wanted to see me in their office. When I asked why, the person said they just wanted to chat, but I told them I wasn’t in town.”
The National Coordinator of the TIB Movement, Sanyaolu Juwon, also sought to contact the DSS officer, Akin, to address concerns of intimidation and harassment. In a WhatsApp message to the officer, Juwon reminded them that the right to protest is constitutionally guaranteed, urging the DSS to cease such actions.
As of the time of the report, the message from Juwon had not been delivered, and the situation continues to unfold. The protest, titled “Nationwide Protest Against Bad Governance and Suppression of Free Speech,” is set to take place on April 7, despite the ongoing scrutiny from the DSS.
