Sim Shagaya, CEO of Miva University, made this announcement during his 50th birthday celebration and colloquium in Abuja, emphasizing his vision to offer world-class university education. He noted that the university’s current target is to reach 10,000 students by May 2025.
Shagaya expressed Miva’s ambition to become Africa’s first university with one million students, promising that the institution would uphold its standards of excellence despite rapid growth. He discussed the importance of keeping tuition fees affordable while delivering quality education, stressing that Miva is not just a business but a mission-driven institution committed to societal impact.
Reflecting on his journey, Shagaya shared how his past experiences, including his involvement with ULesson, shaped his approach to education. He acknowledged the challenges of sustaining quality in a rapidly expanding online university but reassured investors of responsible financial management.
“Our growth has been significant,” Shagaya stated. “We started with 500 students in our first semester, and now, we’re close to 8,000. We expect to surpass 10,000 by May and reach 18,000 to 20,000 by the end of this year. We aim for 45,000 next year, and, with luck, to exceed 100,000 by 2027. Our long-term goal is to create the first university with one million students, but that comes with great responsibility, ensuring we don’t sacrifice quality.”
Prof. Tayo Arulogun, Vice Chancellor of Miva University, also addressed the skills gap in Nigeria’s education system, noting how the university is addressing it through technology, AI-driven learning, and a blended approach combining online and hands-on training. Arulogun highlighted courses like AI, Critical Thinking, and Information Literacy, explaining that these are designed to equip students with essential problem-solving and entrepreneurial skills.

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:
