Girlfriend Allegedly Orchestrates Cultist Attack, Robs Partner Of N15.5 Million — 35-Year-Old Victim Speaks Out
A 35-year-old man, Emeka Nwogu, has recounted a harrowing ordeal that unfolded on Valentine’s Day after his 25-year-old girlfriend allegedly collaborated with her younger brother and a group of cultists to orchestrate a violent robbery against him. According to reports, the incident occurred around the Ago Palace Way area in Lagos. Nwogu had spent Valentine’s night with his girlfriend at a hotel in the area. The following day, they went out for a meal, unaware that she had allegedly conspired with her brother and his cultist associates to carry out the attack.
Sources disclosed that while dining at a newly opened restaurant, the woman asked Nwogu to return with her to the hotel under the pretense of needing to use the restroom. He became suspicious when they passed their usual bus stop, but she reassured him. Upon alighting at another stop, a group of armed men reportedly ambushed them, dragging them to a secluded location within an estate where Nwogu was assaulted with guns and axes. The attackers allegedly forced him to reveal the passwords to his Bitcoin, Binance, and Trust Wallet accounts, from which they withdrew approximately $9,700.
Following the incident, both Nwogu and his girlfriend reported the crime at the Ago Palace Police Station. However, during preliminary investigations, a security guard at the crime scene privately informed officers that one of the attackers was frequently seen with the girlfriend. She was subsequently arrested and confessed to having planned the attack in response to discovering romantic conversations between Nwogu and other women on WhatsApp.
The case was then transferred to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police’s Special Squad. Although her younger brother had gone into hiding, their father returned N3 million, claiming it was part of the N5 million designated as his daughter’s share of the stolen funds.
Further investigations led to the arrest of four suspects — Ogbuka Tochukwu (22), John Wisdom (25), Odora Michael (24), and Babatunde Ibrahim (20) — all identified as members of the Aiye Confraternity. Recovered items included a locally made firearm, four cartridges, a battle axe linked to the cult group, and N7.5 million in cash.
Speaking with the press, Nwogu expressed his devastation, saying, “I’m still in shock that someone I dated for four years could betray me like this. We had a great time on Valentine’s night, and I had no idea she was plotting behind my back. I’m grateful to the CP’s special squad for their swift and effective response.”
Notably, the same police squad was credited with neutralizing a notorious kidnapping ring around Lagos, including a major operation at Ladipo Market last year.
