The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has formally invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, for questioning in connection with a violent incident that occurred during the recent Eid-el-Fitr procession in Kano, which resulted in the death of a local vigilante, Surajo Rabiu, and left another individual injured.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to reports by Naija News, the tragic event unfolded as the Emir’s convoy journeyed from the Eid prayer ground to the palace in a ceremonial procession. The clash, which disrupted the festive atmosphere, has since raised serious security concerns.

A letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), officially summoned the Emir. The letter stated:

“I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain.”

The Emir has been requested to appear before the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja, located opposite the Police Headquarters, Area 11, by 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

This invitation comes amid heightened tension in Kano, following the controversial decision by the State Police Command to ban the traditional Durbar Festival due to security risks. Despite the ban, Emir Sanusi II proceeded with a modified procession on the third day of Eid, which may have further escalated the situation.

In response to the incident, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has constituted a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) comprising eight members to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence.

As of press time, the Emir’s palace has not issued an official statement regarding the police invitation.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
