Gunmen Attack Benue Links Bus, Kill Two, Abduct Twelve Passengers
The management of Benue Links Nigeria Limited has reported a tragic incident in which gunmen attacked one of the company’s buses, killing the driver and one passenger, while abducting 12 others.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released in Makurdi on Friday, the company’s Information Officer, Mr. Johnson Ehi, confirmed the attack. The bus, bearing registration number PP512, was traveling from Makurdi to Otukpo when the unfortunate event occurred on Thursday near Otukpo Burnt Bricks.
The management, owned by the Benue State Government, strongly condemned the violent attack. According to the statement, the driver, identified as Mr. Samuel Agege, and a passenger seated in the front were fatally shot by the assailants.
While the gunmen attempted to abduct the remaining passengers, three individuals managed to escape, and another passenger had already disembarked earlier at Taraku Town before the attack took place.
Expressing their sorrow, the management extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed solidarity with those whose loved ones remain in captivity. The company assured the public that it is in continuous contact with security agencies, who are making diligent efforts to rescue the abducted passengers.
“We commend the prompt response of law enforcement agencies and have confidence in their ongoing rescue operations,” the statement added.
The Benue Police Command has also confirmed the incident. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, stated that the incident had been reported, with further details to be provided later
