NNPC Increases Petrol Price to ₦925 in Lagos, ₦950 in Abuja
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially raised the pump price of petrol to ₦925 per litre at retail stations in Lagos and ₦950 per litre in Abuja, effective April 2, 2025. This marks an increase of ₦65 from the previous price of ₦860 per litre in Lagos and an increase of ₦70 from ₦880 per litre in the North.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This price hike follows a series of adjustments by independent marketers, such as MRS, who had raised petrol prices last week to ₦930 per litre in Lagos and ₦960 per litre in the Northern region.
Industry experts have linked this increase to the recent suspension of petrol sales in naira by the Dangote Refinery, coupled with changes in the deregulated fuel market, shifts in market competition, and fluctuations in global oil prices. Additionally, this price adjustment follows leadership changes at NNPCL, including the appointment of Bayo Ojulari as the new Group CEO, replacing Mele Kyari.
In Lagos, NNPCL stations along major routes, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Ikorodu Road, have updated their prices to ₦925 per litre, although some stations are still in the process of adjusting due to logistical delays. In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stations along the Kubwa Expressway and Wuse have raised prices to ₦950 per litre.
While NNPCL had reduced petrol prices to ₦860 per litre in March 2025 to match Dangote Refinery’s rates, rising global oil prices and fluctuations in exchange rates have now led to the upward revision. Despite the increase, petrol prices in Lagos remain comparatively lower than in other cities like Abuja.
