In a statement released on Wednesday, Ighodalo vowed to challenge the tribunal’s ruling at the Court of Appeal, reaffirming his commitment to fight for what he believes is the will of the people. Ighodalo expressed that the ruling undermines the collective right of the electorate in Edo State, which he believes should be the guiding principle in the election process.

“I respect the judiciary as the last hope of the common man,” Ighodalo stated, urging his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding in the aftermath of the ruling. He emphasized that his decision to appeal is rooted in preserving the integrity of the electoral process and the right of the people to freely choose their leaders.

“This is not the end of our journey, but the beginning of a greater struggle for justice, democracy, and the sanctity of the people’s mandate freely conferred on my running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, and I on the platform of our great Party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” Ighodalo declared.

He reassured his supporters that the campaign has always been about the collective good of Edo State, not personal ambition. Ighodalo reiterated his vision for a prosperous Edo, where democratic values, justice, and the will of the people are upheld.

“I am not in this for personal gain but for the prosperity of Edo people,” he affirmed.

Ighodalo concluded by instructing his legal team to proceed with an appeal to the Court of Appeal, describing the tribunal’s ruling as a significant setback for democracy and the democratic process in Nigeria.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
