MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, has dismissed allegations that the telecom company is involved in stealing customer data. He explained that similar accusations have been made throughout his career in various markets, emphasizing that MTN has no reason to engage in such practices.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

These allegations come amid growing concerns in Nigeria, where customers of MTN, which has over 80 million users, have complained about unexplained depletion of their data. Many subscribers have reached out to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for clarification.

Blewett addressed the issue at a press conference in Accra, refuting claims of intentional data theft. He explained that data depletion is more likely due to the transition to 5G networks and increased video streaming, which consume more data. He further clarified that there is no financial incentive for MTN to manipulate data usage, as his bonus is tied to declared revenue, and any discrepancies would affect their financial reporting.

To reassure customers, Blewett highlighted MTN’s independent audits and internal mechanisms designed to ensure accuracy and transparency in billing. He stressed that MTN is committed to building trust and addressing customer concerns regarding data usage.

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions.
