Makinde Pledges Market Restructuring After Aleshinloye Fire Tragedy

During his visit on Tuesday, Makinde assured the affected traders that his administration is committed to restructuring the market to prevent similar incidents in the future. He emphasized that the government has already provided some form of palliative to offer immediate relief to the victims.
The governor expressed his intention to implement an improved architectural design for the market, aimed at minimizing the risk of future fire outbreaks. He also revealed that the Oyo State Government, in collaboration with the Ibadan South-West Local Government and the Ibadan South LCDA, would work together to mitigate the impact on traders.
Makinde highlighted two major priorities: first, organizing the market properly to ensure the fire station within the vicinity is functional. Despite the presence of the fire station, it failed to contain the blaze during the incident.
Secondly, he addressed a planned demolition by the local government, instructing the chairman not to proceed without first providing an alternative for the affected traders. Makinde reassured the traders that efforts to alleviate the effects of the fire would be a collaborative process over the next few days.
