Ejimakor pointed out that Nnamdi Kanu was detained and is being prosecuted for making a similar statement. He argued that Kanu’s call for self-defense led to the proscription of IPOB and the labeling of many Igbos as terrorists.
Ajayi made his remarks during a public engagement, where he cited past incidents in Bauchi State, where communities successfully defended themselves against Boko Haram without waiting for security forces. He emphasized that Nigerians must take responsibility for their security, as the military and police cannot protect every community.
Reacting on social media, Ejimakor stated that Kanu’s call for self-defense, which was interpreted as incitement to violence, was used as a basis for his extraordinary rendition and prosecution. Ejimakor called the situation unjust, noting the double standard in how similar remarks are treated.
